Preparation decides the finish

Most of the time on an interior job goes into work you will not see once it is finished. Furniture is moved to the center of the room and covered, floors are protected with drop cloths, and switch plates and outlet covers come off. Nail holes and small cracks are filled and sanded flush, glossy trim is scuff-sanded so new paint can bond, and open seams between trim and wall are caulked. Edges are cut in by hand and taped where the surface calls for it. That sequence is what produces a straight line at the ceiling and walls that look even in low afternoon light.

Choosing sheen and product for each room

Sheen is a practical decision before it is an aesthetic one. Flat and matte finishes hide surface variation on large walls and ceilings, while eggshell and satin stand up better to cleaning in hallways, kitchens and children's rooms. Bathrooms need a finish rated for moisture, and trim and doors usually take semi-gloss so they can be wiped down without wearing through. Low-odor, low-VOC coatings are a sensible default in an occupied home, which matters when you are living in the house during the work. Your written estimate lists the product and sheen for each surface, so there is nothing left to guess at.

Working in a home you live in

Interior painting in the North Bay usually happens with the household in place, so the work is planned room by room. We agree on a sequence before starting, keep the rooms you rely on most in use for as long as possible, and close each day with tools put away and floors clear. Windows are opened for airflow when the weather allows. The same summer sun that bakes exteriors here also fades interior walls near south and west facing windows, so we can talk through colors and finishes that hold up in bright rooms. A final walkthrough with you closes out the job, and any touch-ups are handled before we leave.

FAQs

Questions about interior painting.

Something else on your mind? Call or text (707) 397-9661.

How long does it take to paint a room?

It depends on the size of the room, the condition of the walls and how much trim is involved. A bedroom with light patching is a short job, while a room with crown molding, wainscoting or significant repairs takes longer. Your free written estimate gives a realistic schedule for your rooms before any work begins.

Do I need to move my furniture first?

No. We move furniture to the center of each room and cover it, protect the floors, and remove outlet covers and switch plates. We do ask that you clear small breakables, wall art and personal items from shelves and walls beforehand, since those are easier for you to pack the way you like.

Is there a discount on larger interior projects?

Yes. Nex-Gen offers 10% off any job over $2,500, and whole-home interiors or multi-room projects often reach that total. Mention the offer when you request your free written estimate. If it applies to your job, the discount will appear on the estimate before any work begins.
