Epoxy Floor Coating for Garages and Workspaces

An epoxy coating turns a dusty, stained concrete floor into a sealed surface that is easy to clean and resists oil and chemicals. Nex-Gen Painting prepares and coats garage, shop and light commercial floors across Solano, Napa and Sonoma counties.

Preparation is most of the job

Epoxy floors that peel usually do so because of poor preparation. Concrete has to be clean, dry and open enough for the coating to bond, and a sealed or oily garage slab is none of those things. The floor is cleared, degreased to remove oil and tire marks, and mechanically ground so the surface has texture the epoxy can grip. Cracks and pits are filled and leveled. We also check for moisture coming up through the slab, since moisture beneath epoxy is a common cause of bubbling and lifting. Only after the floor passes those checks does any coating go down.

Coating system and finish options

A typical system starts with an epoxy base coat that bonds to the ground concrete. While it is still wet, decorative vinyl flakes can be broadcast across the floor for texture and color, which also helps hide dust and small imperfections between cleanings. A clear topcoat then seals everything in and adds resistance to scratches, chemicals and hot tire pickup. Solid-color finishes without flake suit a cleaner, more industrial look. Anti-slip additives can be mixed into the topcoat for floors that get wet from cars coming in out of the rain. We walk you through samples and finish options during the estimate.

Curing and getting your garage back

Epoxy cures by chemical reaction, and temperature affects how long that takes. North Bay garages can be cold in winter and hot in summer, so we schedule the work for conditions that let the coating cure properly. You will need to keep foot traffic off the floor for a period after coating, and vehicles off for longer. We give you specific times based on the products used and the weather on the day. Plan to move cars, tools and storage out before the work begins. Once cured, the floor cleans with a broom and a damp mop.

FAQs

Questions about epoxy floors.

Something else on your mind? Call or text (707) 397-9661.

How long before I can park on my epoxy floor?

It depends on the product and the temperature during curing. Light foot traffic is possible sooner than vehicle traffic, which needs the coating to cure fully. We give you specific times for your floor based on the system used and the weather, and we schedule the work to give it the conditions it needs.

Can epoxy go over an old painted garage floor?

Usually not directly. Old paint or sealer has to be ground off so the epoxy bonds to the concrete itself. Coating over failing paint means the new floor is only as strong as the old layer underneath. Grinding removes it and gives the surface the texture the epoxy needs.

Do you coat commercial and shop floors?

Yes. Workshops, storage areas and light commercial spaces can be coated with the same process, with finish options suited to the traffic and chemicals involved. Because Nex-Gen is open 24/7, commercial floor work can be scheduled around your operating hours.
